Getting the Right Training

March 20th, 2008

These days, it is simply not enough to be good at what you do if you are clueless when it comes to computers. Pretty much every field incorporates computers into their work systems. Therefore, one must seek out the proper IT training in order to enhance their skills to the fullest. IT training classes are also extremely helpful for employees and that is why more and more employers are taking advantage of the various IT courses that are out there. Global Knowledge offers many different IT related courses such as Cisco training. There are even online courses available that can be extremely helpful and informative

Online Storage

March 13th, 2008

My partner asked me the other day is I know how to set up remote access to his computer at home since he finds it difficult and confusing to synchronize all his files while working from multiple locations. While I do know how to set something like that up, I encouraged him to take a different approach which would much better suit his needs.

You see, what really bothered him (and many people these days) is the fact that in many occasions he works on the same files on different computers which forces him to constantly email himself these files or come up with other clumsy solutions. But the perfect solution for just this scenario has in fact been available for quite some time. What I recommended he do is sign up for an online storage service such as that of ibackup.com.

Using IBackup you actually don’t have to synchronize your files since you will always be working on the same file wherever you are. The reason for this is that you have the option of saving your work online much the way you would normally do on your own computers. You can easily drag and drop files from your hard disk to the online service since IBackup’s solution is actually set up as a virtual windows drive.

How Firewalls Operate

March 12th, 2008

There are three different procedures used simultaneously by firewalls to control data flow in a computer system. Firewalls can use a technique called Packet Filtering which evaluates small portions of data against a filter. This technique admits to the system, sections of data that are deemed acceptable while discarding others.

The Proxy Service Method lets the firewall serve as retriever between the Internet and the system where it actually obtains data from the Internet to send to the requesting system. The Stateful Inspection Approach provides that only integral parts of each segment of data are evaluated against a database of information instead of examining entire segments. Incoming information is admitted when there is satisfactory match with the attributes of the information contained within the system.

The benefits of outsourcing system security have begun to be appreciated by companies that rely heavily on electronically stored data. Its benefits however should be tempered by the potential threat of allowing external entities to have access to sensitive information.

The high dependence of organizations on information technology leaves no space for unreliable and unsecured systems. It is not an easy task to monitor, manage and assess security risks and threats thus measures that will gain security assurance that are within a cost-effective budget are highly desired. Security infringements not only result to irritation and aggravation but also to foregone opportunities, diminished competitive advantage and unpleasant company/client relations which will all ultimately result to financial loss.

Security System of Computers

February 10th, 2008

There is a system or group of systems in the computer that acts as the security system within. This is what is called the firewall which enforces an access control policy between two networks. Its primary purpose is to protect a network from unauthorized access.

Firewalls effectively function as a protective boundary between a computer and the outside world by screening incoming and outgoing traffic. They also assist in preventing computers from unwilling participation in attacking other systems aside from shielding them from unsolicited attacks. Firewalls have been quite efficient in various threats such as session hacking, operating system bugs, denial of service attacks, email bombs, spam and viruses.

Hacking as a Profession?

February 10th, 2008

The word hacking carries a very negative meaning that it can be hard to imagine someone doing it as a legal profession. Many organizations are starting to realize that they would be in a better position to evaluate the threat of intruders gaining admission into their system if they could anticipate the offensive action. One way to do this is to hire professionals that would think like the enemy and attempt to do exactly as an intruder would.

This is where the so-called ethical hackers enter the picture. These people should be completely trustworthy since the responsibility of testing a client’s system security will place them in an advantageous position of gaining confidential information. This is the reason why ex-hackers are not considered for the position. Trust has been placed a higher consideration than hacker skills gained from questionable experience.

Accessing Computers Remotely

January 27th, 2008

The ability to access files and information over the Internet has been proven to be beneficial whether at work or play. The technologies that enable this kind of access fall into two general categories: those that access files remotely and those that access and control desktops remotely. While file access essentially allows the user to access files from a remote location using the Internet, desktop access and control brings the entire desktop of a person’s home computer to the computer that is being used elsewhere.

The idea is to bring the entire working environment of a computer to another which is being used from another geographical location. This eliminates the need to synchronize files between laptops and desktops and allows the user to really work away from the home or office. However, computing experience tend to be slower since current technology still does not allow lag-free control over a remote connection.
