Making Use of Screensavers
January 16th, 2008
Screensavers were originally developed to protect old-fashioned monitors from screen burn but such purpose has long been upstaged by having fun. A screensaver is initiated when the keyboard and mouse have been inactive for a specified length of time. The time can be set as desired in the same manner that screensavers can be customized to suit one’s personal taste.
With the addition of a password, the screensaver can be used as a security tool. However, this option cannot protect a PC from determined intruders who can manage to get around the screensaver password obstacle simply by rebooting the PC. Caution should be exercised in downloading free screensavers from the Internet since most are executable files that can easily hide viruses.
