Regulating Cyber Crimes

March 4th, 2008

The World Wide Web has always thrived on mostly self-regulation rather than institutionalized regulation. This is whether from government or otherwise. The changing times however, may necessitate revolutionalized Internet security under federal governance. This is due to the ongoing concerns regarding security, privacy and corporate accountability. Expected regulations will result to mandated technology improvements that are not expected to be cheap.

An example of this regulation is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act or the HIPAA. These are laws that are designed to secure electronic patient information. Another is the Gramm-Leach-Billey Act (GLBA) which forces financial institutions to implement more rigorous security measures to better protect consumer information.
